Crossbite (교차교합) — Invisalign Treatment in Busan

Crossbite occurs when upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth — the reverse of the normal occlusal relationship. Anterior crossbite affects the front teeth (one or more upper front teeth biting behind the lower), while posterior crossbite affects the back teeth (upper molars biting inside the lower molars). Both can cause abnormal jaw movement, facial asymmetry, and TMJ stress over time.

Crossbite treatment depends on whether the cause is dental or skeletal. Dental crossbite — where the teeth themselves are mispositioned but the jaw bones are appropriately sized — is correctable with Invisalign. Skeletal crossbite — where there is a jaw size discrepancy — may require palate expansion, surgical-assisted expansion, or orthognathic surgery for definitive correction. Anterior Crossbite with Invisalign

Anterior crossbite involving one or more upper front teeth biting behind the lower front teeth is well within Invisalign's treatment range. Controlled labial (forward) movement of the upper tooth, sometimes combined with bite plane to allow free movement, achieves correction efficiently.

Posterior Crossbite with Invisalign

Posterior crossbite correction with Invisalign uses arch expansion mechanics — widening the upper arch to bring the upper back teeth over the lower. For mild to moderate posterior crossbite, Invisalign expansion achieves good results. Severe transverse jaw discrepancy may require a palate expander or surgical expansion first.
